Shikinaen Garden

Shikinaen was constructed in the end of 18th century as the second residence Ryuku kings. On 1945 Shikinaen was destroyed in the battle of Okinawa. And it is has been restored in the postwar years.

buildings and landscape gardens feature is so beautiful and simple. Visitors can enjoy the unique Okinawan atmosfer in this garden. Shikinaen also has listed to the in UNESCO as a World Heritage Sites.

The garden can be viewed from 300 meter circular path wich leads through a forested area. There are a beautiful pond with two stone bridges connect to a small islet

Visitors can see the entire gardens in about 40 minutes. Best time to exploring this beautiful garden is during cooler months because the best spot mostly in the sun around the pond. There are also a palace building stands near the pond’s shore.

Visitors can inspect the building’s large with tatami rooms floored that look out onto the garden.

The majority of the paths are stone or gravel. Be sure to wear appropriate shoes.
