Naruto which famous with their whirlpools, located in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. Naruto whirlpools are tidal whirlpools occur along the Shikoku coast of Naruto Strait. This phenomenom occured by the large of water between Seto Island sea and the Pacific Ocea with unique underwater.
Naruto is the gateway to Shikoku as it connected to Awaji Island via Onaruto Bridge and Akashi Kaikyo Bridge.
The whirlpools occur roughly every six hours and can be seen once in the morning and afternoon for an hour or more. Whirlpools size is depending on the intensity of the tides. It is tend to be larger than in summer than other season. Whirlpool may up to 20 meters in diameter and sometimes there is not much to see. Check whirlpool schedules before visit.
Visitors can view the whirlpools roaring from whirlpool sightseeing view, Sejojiki Observatory or from Uzu no Michi whirlpool viewing pathway. Spectacular view can be seen from Uzu no Michi.
If you want to see the whirlpool right up next to boat, it is best from sightseeing boat. There are two sightseeing boats departures every hour.
